About Brent

I am a candidate for the position of city councilman for Pleasant Grove City. I have lived all of my life in this city except 2½ years on an LDS mission and 2 two years living in Sandy. I served in the Utah National Guard for 7 years and attained the rank of Sargent and was honorably discharged. I have also served 5 years on the Pleasant Grove Police force and attained the rank of assistant chief. I have a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Public Administration and a Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University.

I served a term on the Pleasant Grove Library Board, the Pleasant Grove Irrigation Board and on March 1, 2019 retired as Pleasant Grove City Judge after serving 28 years, 8 years of which I served on Board of Justice Court Judges. I taught at the Utah Valley University for 24 years, 22 years of which I served a Department Chair of the Criminal Justice, Forensic Science and Police Academy. I also maintained a civil law practice during this time.

I feel very strongly that I have the skills and ability to serve effectively on the City Council. I have worked along the side of the many employees and executive staff, because of my familiarity with the City and the issues I feel that if elected I would be able to immediately address those issues.

Having worked for the City these many years I am acutely aware of the needs and issues facing the city.

I feel the City Master Plan needs to be revisited with input from the citizens and those who may be affected. I feel very strong that zoning needs to be vigorously enforced, that people’s homes and yards meet the zoning requirements, and the timetable for street repairs be announced and followed. The biggest issue facing the City is the need to vigorously seek to attract commercial development to enhance the tax base without looking to increase the property tax to fund all the many needs of the City
